Player Qualification Guidelines

Each spring the MidAm District hosts a tryout to select the top players at the 15, 16, & 17 age levels to participate in the USA Hockey National Player Development Camps.  As a district we are charged with sending the best players who are US Citizens (see USA Hockey Annual Guide page 123 for more details), reside in the MidAm District, and are registered with USA Hockey for the current season. Ohio high school players participating on OHSAA sanctioned teams are welcome to attend the tryouts, however, they must register with USA Hockey for the current playing season to do so.

Additionally, the district hosts a tryout and a camp within the district for players aged 14.  This camp is modeled on the national player development camps available at the older age groups.

The national office requires that players tryout in the district in which they reside.  Residency is established by their parent or guardian’s primary residence (the state in which they reside more than 50% of the calendar year).  Players attending prep schools located within the MidAm District should make arrangements to attend their home district tryouts.  If a prep school player is unable to attend their home district tryouts, they should contact the player development camp contact person for their home district and request that their tryout be conducted during the MidAm tryouts. The player’s evaluation will be sent to their home district. In this situation, affected players will be trying out for their home district and NOT for the MidAm District.

Tryout Registration Process

On or about January 31st the vice president for each state in the MidAm District will e-mail a spreadsheet to local program heads; the local program head provides the requested information for the top players in his/her program at the 14 – 17 ages (birth years 2004 – 2001) and e-mails the completed spreadsheet back to the state VP.  Nominations (spreadsheets) will be accepted until mid April for all ages; the regular registration period ends one week prior to the tryout dates for each age group.  Nominees will receive an e-mail with registration information from Rocky Mountain Register (info@usahockey.com).  Check your spam file for this e-mail if you believe you have not received it before contacting us.  You must use the user name and password supplied by Rocky Mountain Register and pay via credit card online in order to complete the registration process.  Please note if we experience high registration numbers at a given birth year, the cutoff date can be altered.

Cost of the tryouts is $95.00.

Refund Policy: Fees will be refunded in the event of illness, family emergencies or injuries less a $15.00 processing fee.  This fee covers the costs of credit card fees, registration fees and administrative costs.

Late Registration Policy: After the close of registration, players will be accepted on a first come, first served basis.  There will be a $10.00 late registration fee.

Players attending the tryout will receive an e-mail from the MidAm District Administrator (tryouts@midamhockey.com) approximately one week prior to the tryout; in this e-mail will be your assigned jersey color and first ice time.  Due to the high number of players it is not possible to honor requests to match players for car pooling convenience.  If car pooling, assume you will be on different teams and plan accordingly.

2017 Tryouts and Camps Information Overview

Players attending the tryouts will be evaluated by a staff of high school, midget, junior and/or college coaches.  Players at the 14 and 15 ages will be seeking one of approximately 68 spots (60 skaters and 8 goaltenders) at either the 15 Camp at Kent State (June 11 – 15, 2017) or at the 14 Camp at Sylvania (June 18 – 22, 2017).
